I Desire 1
We do not usually get what we desire, but that never stopped us from keep on desiring.
With time though, we discover that once we get what we desire, we immediately desire something else: bigger, higher, more expensive... etc.
Every thing we have or we get, despite how important it is, does not satisfy a profound desire that we all have deep in our heart of something more.
The only desire that will fill our hearts and fulfill all our desires is God himself.
The Holy Scripture that will accompany our first 'desire' journey is the story of Bartimaeus the blind man (Mark 10:46-52).
46Then they came to Jericho. And as Jesus, his disciples, and a huge crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind man, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside asking for alms. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!” 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be silent, but he only shouted all the louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart! Stand up! He is calling you!” 50 Casting aside his cloak, he jumped up and went to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me receive my sight.” 52 Jesus said to him, “Go on your way! Your faith has made you well.” Immediately, he received his sight and followed him along the road.
This story is not just another miracle that Jesus does. It is the story of a call! This man had heard about Jesus and he desired to meet him. His ‘blindness’ and the ‘huge crowd’ did not stop him from doing so. He made Jesus stop his journey and call him. He did not hesitate, not even for a second, to leave his cloak and jump to meet Jesus.
And here comes the big question: ‘what do you want me to do for you?’ and again with no hesitation: ‘to see’ he said!
This story has a happy ending: ‘He receives his sight back and followed Jesus along the road.’
The cloak was everything he had: it was his home, his security, his protection and everything he had ever wished for. To follow Jesus and get his sight back, he was ready to leave everything.
Jesus did not give him only the sight of his eyes... but of his heart.
What is your blindness at the moment that is preventing you from seeing God’s will for you? And what would your answer be if God asks you today: ‘What do you want me to do for you?’
